How to Resolve - Advance Filter in Excel 2007 is locking up?

Advance Filter in Excel 2007 is locking up

I have a large database - (76K+ records and growing) and am having trouble running the Advanced Filter.  It often locks up.  Most of the time I have to save and close the spreadsheet every time I change my critera and want to run another filter.   Sometimes
it won't run at all.
I've been told I need a more powerful PC and I've also been told that Excel 2010 solves this problem.
Unfortunately, I work for state government and neither of the options are currently available to me.
Does anyone have any suggestions to solve my problem?

Does the issue occur with all Excel files or a particular file?
Try creating a test database and check if issue persists.
You may also try re-saving the file using the Save as option on a different location and then check how it works.
You may also check how Excel works in safe mode.
To do that, close Excel.
Click on Start – All Programs – Accessories – Run, and in the open box type in excel /safe and hit ok.
(Note: There is a space between Excel and /). Once Excel is open, click on File ->Open and open the file causing the issue.
If Excel works in the safe mode, try disabling the Add-ins associated with Excel and check.
Refer to the section “A COM add-in is causing problems“ from the following article:

Cleaning your computer, components, and peripherals help keep everything in good working condition and helps prevent germs from spreading. You can't image how dirty the inside of your computer case can get. All the dust and dirt is going to prevent proper air flow and may even prevent the fan from working.
