Cannot install a windows update. Error message is - Windows Update error 80073712

MS says to install my microsoft DVD but I don't have one.
  I don't think I have had one for the last 3 computers I've owned.
I have made a system repair disk if that helps and have run the MS malware tool and the update tool.
  
So far I haven't found anything that even starts to point me in the right direction to resolve this problem.
Computer is a Gateway.
NV 59 laptop w/windows 7 and a 64bit i5 processor
 
The update is;
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS10-034 - Critical Cumulative Security Update of ActiveX Kill Bits (980195)
any help would be great.
