Troubleshoot:Computer freezes randomly and shuts down itself automatically while in sleep mode. Error

Computer freezes randomly and shuts down itself automatically while in sleep mode.

Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 570 desktop computer.
It keeps "freezing or in other words hanging up when I put a DVD or try opening something such as Word.
It's only about a year old and it's running Windows 7 HP x64.
It freezes for like 10 seconds but then it
will work again.
Also sometimes when its in sleep mode it will randomly just turn off and then when I turn it back on it shows the Windows shutdown unexpectedly error.
Also it has two hard drives installed 1TB & a second one 500GB.
Now, it also has 7GB of RAM installed.
4GB can preinstalled but my question is that the rest of the 3GB ram is like this: 1 2GB stick; and another 1 GB stick of RAM that I took out from another computer and put into it.
Could the freezing be related to the
RAM?

Please help me out!
Thanks!

Hello Shaheer,
Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community Forum.
As per the description, I understand that your computer freezes while trying to run DVD or opening a Microsoft Word file.
Also, sometimes it shutdown automatically while in sleep mode and when restarted it comes up with the “Windows
shutdown unexpectedly” message.
I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.
Have you added a new memory (RAM) stick recently? Does this problem started after adding the new RAM?Do you get any error message when system freezes?Which Windows 7 version is installed on your computer?
Sometimes an additional stick of RAM in the system might cause this issue.
There is a limit to how much memory (RAM) your computer hardware and your operating system can handle.
Some older computer mother boards can handle a maximum
of 4 GB of RAM whereas some newer motherboards can handle up to 16 GB or more.

Basically, the issue may not
be because you have more RAM memory but more RAM sticks.
In some cases, the system freezes or goes to no boot situation due to larger no.
of RAM sticks than the system requirement.
So, for better performance, I would recommend you to install one stick
of larger memory (Say 8 or 16 GB) than 4 sticks of 4 GB each.

Having more RAM reduces Windows' dependency on virtual memory, which in turn frees up CPU and disk resources, making the computer run more efficiently.
To know on how to manage RAM and virtual memory on your system, I would recommend
you to refer to the following Knowledge Base article thoroughly.
